Words Matter
Research on brain science has direct relevance to vocabulary instruction. Academic vocabulary is foundational to educational success. When we align vocabulary instruction to learning science practices such as elaboration, retrieval, and spaced repetition, we greatly increase the quality of student learning. Students process and consolidate vocabulary in their long-term memory, making it more applicable towards reading, writing, and higher order thinking skills.
